“Unexpected ” Snowfall Blocks Manali-Leh

Todays news talks of up to two feet of snowfall in the Manali region , effectively closing the Manali-Leh highway beyond the Rothang pass.

The current Severe Weather Warning from India Met talks of heavy rain in the coming 24 hours ( downgraded from yesterdays ” very heavy ” ) , possibly thunderstorms. Lahaul & Spiti is predicted to have 45 mms of rainfall – eight centimeters of snow in Keylong yesterday.

UPDATE , JUNE 10TH : A himvani.com story today quotes a official mentioning two and a half feet snowfall yesterday over Rothang , Baralacha La and Kunzum La passes. Eighteen centimeters of snow in Keylong , also some snow in higer reaches of Kinnaur.

    • Closed officially on leh.nic.in yesterday : this is the first time ever I´ve seen them making a update between opening and final closure for the winter.

  2. No other option now…need to face head on….Bike is already on its way to Delhi.
    Leaving Chennai…this Saturday….

  3. Snow fall is playing havoc with tourists
    attemting Manali – Leh road, this year.
    It is 12th June 2010 and the road is still closed. We will be on that road on 29th June 2010.
    I hope and pray that matters improve.

  4. Is it true that manali leh road is closed
    on every tuesday for minor repairs.
    We are planning to be on Manali to jispa
    on a tuesday ie 29-6-10.
    Please advise. ASAP Thanks

  5. hi 5 of our youngsters are travelling on bikes on their way to manali from leh on monday. they are on the 2 pulsars enfield jawa bikes from bangalore.names rohan jigar karan adi and abhi. call in every day .We have not heard from them from monday afternoon. they should have passed keylong to manali tonight . if any one met them or heard from them or know who to contact in case we need to locate them please call 09844033027 09844049169.
