Manali, May 31
The high-altitude areas in the tribal valleys of Lahaul and Pangi and the Rohtang Pass (13,050 ft) had another spell of moderate snowfall while of Manali and the Kullu valley had intermittent heavy rain, causing a sharp fall in the temperature.
The fresh snowfall hampered the road-clearing operations of the Ground Reserve Engineering Force (GREF) and the Rohtang Pass, gateway to Lahaul valley, could not be opened. The fresh snowfall in the higher reaches created cold wave conditions in the adjoining hills, forcing local people and tourists to put on heavy woollens.
Thick fog engulfed Manali and the surrounding areas, and landslides at some places disrupted vehicular traffic.
