I would expect it to be cleared again soon , even though temporary closures normally don´t show up on the official road marker at leh.nic.in .

I have used the road out twice in mid-October , but I would´t recommend anyone trying later than that. Since I trek I have a full kit with me : tent , sleeping bag and storm kitchen. Getting stuck on the high sections means facing harsh conditions : night temperatures in Leh now start to drop below -10 degrees , which should translate in to -20 or worse basically everywhere after Darcha to Lato at 4000 meters - and no camps , dhabas etc to rely on at this time beyond Keylong.

Leh had even heavier snowfall on 19 Oct, more than 4 inches in Sankar and maybe Changspa, and about 3 inches down in "The Colony." But almost none out at SECMOL Campus, and we hear that this was a very localised snowfall and it didn't happen in Kargil or Zangskar. It was already hot and sunny by midday so it's mostly melted by afternoon around Leh.

Major climbing scandal now , involving the same media tactics taken one step further , by the other member in the program, Annlelie Pompe. . A reported climb on Shishapangma , Tibet, shows on closer inspection be of a non-technical peak in the same range - with a photoshopped picture from another climb used to support the bogus claim.

Dear Vistet Sir,

I agree with you. We were 7 persons in 2 cars as mentioned. And 5 out of 7 had AMS. We stayed at Manali 1st night, Keylong 2nd night and a marathon drive on 3rd day to reach Leh [well we had to call it a day opon reaching Upshi]. It was the unforgettable as well as a 'must repeat' experience for us. Of course, the headache and vomiting were hell like experience. But we got thro' unscathed. In our group we had doctors - pediatrician, anaesthesiologist and surgeon as well. And we respect your recommendation. We took all the precautions. However, we felt that it requires at least 5-6 days for some acclimatization. Worst is the stuck up part at high altitude. If AMS hits you, you will be doomed. And if not you are a luckier one.
Thanks again for your warnings.

This is the most common type of question here , and with each year I get more uncertain how to answer it. The more you see , the more you realise how little can be predicted.
Weather today : Leh 18 degrees midday , +1 at night , Manali 22/12 .. as usual that means there will be massive rapid snow melt. Most of what has been commented on here can be gone within a few days , same conditions given.

As to new snows though ... no one can tell. Roll of the dice , with fairly good chances on your side.
